Theatre packed out to hear Catherine Grimley perform

November 18, 2011

Madden Songbird Catherine Grimley performed to a packed audience on Thursday night past in the Market Place Theatre in Armagh.People came from across County Armagh and further afield to hear the unique singing voice of Catherine Grimley.   There was also a large American turnout as many of the American visitors who came to Armagh for the Tommy Makem Festival stayed on to hear the talented singer/song writer perform in her own concert.

The 27-year-old Madden woman left her audience spellbound as she belted out well known Irish traditional songs and ballads.  The local artist also played the tin whistle alongside the famous McCusker Band.  The highlight of the evening however was the exclusive performances of three of Catherine’s new songs which she has penned herself.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Catherine performed her very own song simply titled ‘Loss’.  The emotional song is dedicated to the memory of her mother Deirdre (nee Renaghan) who lost her battle against cancer 19 years ago when Catherine was only 8-years-old.  There is no doubt that Catherine’s mother would have been so proud of her daughter who is really carving a name for herself as one of Ireland’s upcoming stars.

The audience were treated to three other songs penned by Catherine: ‘These Moments’, ‘I know you’, and ‘Brighter Days’.  All of which went down really well with many eagerly awaiting their release.  There are big hopes that Catherine will get a big hit with one of her own songs.

Speaking after the concert, mother-to-be Catherine said, “It’s a huge step to put on my very own concert in the Market Place Theatre in Armagh City.  It’s a huge venue which has played host to some of Ireland’s greatest singers, musicians and comedians and I am very proud to have been able to put on my own concert here.  I was really overwhelmed to see such a massive turn-out and hope everyone enjoyed their evening.

“I am busy touring with the McCusker Band at the minute around venues across the north and I am working away penning my own material.  I can’t wait to get back into the recording studio so that I can release some of my own work in the New Year.”

Fans can follow Catherine’s success through her website or through her You Tube Page and Facebook Pages.

Catherine Grimley and the McCusker Band will be performing their stunning concert at The Market House Middletown on 12th November.
