Well known local singing star Catherine Grimley from Madden has just come back from a trip of a lifetime – where she sang on the Irish Show Cruise which travelled to Spain and Portugal.

Catherine was special guest on the luxury cruise, as part of her prize for winning Northern Ireland’s U Factor earlier this year.  And what an experience it was for the 26-year-old, performing alongside some of Ireland’s best loved artists including Robert Mizel, Susan McCann, Philomena Begley, Malachi Cush, Donegal Tenors, Limelight, Celtic Rhythm Dancers and the hilarious Conal Gallen.

The Madden Songbird looked every inch a star as she performed to packed-out audiences every night.  She certainly left a lasting impression on all the cruise goers with her crystal clear voice.

The famous Gene Fitzpatrick acted as MC on the cruise and on the final night at the Captain’s Cocktail Party he told everyone that “Catherine Grimley has the best singing voice I have ever heard in my entire life.  Her voice is touched by an angel.”  This was met with raptures of applause from the audience who had fallen in love with the Armagh woman over the eight night cruise.

The much-loved local woman was accompanied on the Boudicca Cruise Ship by her husband Darren Hughes and brother Gerard as well as many friends and supporters from across the Armagh area– they travelled from Madden, Keady, Derrynoose, and Granemore and one woman Anne Clifford (nee Renaghan) travelled the whole way from America to go on the cruise to see her niece sing.  The proud aunt was joined by her sister and brother in-law Marian and Ted Brennan.  There was some craic onboard Boudicca as the Armagh contingent kept things lively.

Speaking on her return home Catherine said, “This really was a trip of a lifetime.  It was a great honour for me to win this all expenses cruise and to have the opportunity to perform on the Boudicca Cruise Ship.  It was really enjoyable to sing alongside some of Ireland’s biggest stars and I really believe that I’ve made some lifetime friends from this.

“I thank all those who travelled on the cruise to support me.  Not that they needed much persuasion to come along!  But seriously I am very lucky to have such a strong circle of fans and supporters who literally would travel anywhere to support me – I’m very grateful to all of them and I’m delighted that they all really enjoyed their cruise.”

Catherine Grimley is back on solid ground again and is due to go on tour with the Frank Mitchell Christmas Show and can be seen at the Market Place Theatre on Thursday 9th December.  Tickets are selling out fast for this special show and anyone interested in attending should contact the Box Office at the Theatre as soon as possible.  She will also perform in Monaghan at Iontas theatre on Friday 10th December.
