MADDEN SONGBIRD SET FOR A GLITTERING GRAND FINAL
1st February 2010

Madden Songbird Catherine Grimley is to once again perform on a glittering stage, this time at the prestige Grand Final of U Factor, on Thursday evening in the Europa Hotel.

Over 150 people from across County Armagh have already snapped up tickets for the sold-out gig, meaning that Catherine Grimley is pulling in the biggest audience than any of the other six competition performers, with over 20% of the ticket share being snapped up by Catherine’s loyal fans.

This just highlights the popularity of the down-to-earth Madden woman and signals good things for the local artist who is expected to release her debut album within the coming weeks.

The Grand Final in Belfast’s most famous hotel, the Europa, will see six competitors from Counties Armagh, Down, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Derry, Antrim and a competitor representing Belfast, battle it out for the winner’s title.  With that title comes a deal to perform on a 118 Cruise to the Med in November, along with an attractive cheque!

The decision on the night lies solely with the judges, with seven top experts from the world of music and entertainment sealing the fate of the competitors.

Catherine has already impressed the judges with the Benn Sisters describing her as ‘a real contender’ and other judges have described her as a ‘flawless singer’.  She is definitely one of the favourites to win.

In December, Catherine was crowed County Armagh Champion beating off a high level of competition from singers across the County.  Her large army of fans now hope that they will have a lot of celebrate come Thursday night.

It’s a busy time for the 25-year-old as she is also planning her wedding at the moment, but the outgoing young woman doesn’t let it all faze her.  Speaking ahead of the Grand Final Catherine said, “It’s been a brilliant opportunity and I’ve really enjoyed the experience.  I love to sing and to sing before so many great audiences has been unreal, I can’t wait to do it all again on Thursday evening.

“No matter what the result is on Thursday I just want to thank all my supporters who are so loyal and who are so good to travel the whole way to Belfast to support me.  They help me feel at ease and bring the party with them whatever happens.”

The whole of County Armagh will be rooting for Catherine Grimley on Thursday night, but one thing’s for sure, no matter what the outcome on Thursday, there are big things happening for the Madden Songbird this year.  Keep up-to-date on Catherine’s success by logging onto www.catherinegrimley.com .  Good Luck Catherine!

Stunning Voice Captivates Armagh Audience
8th December 2009

The people of Madden were celebrating in fine tune on Monday night (7th December) last when local songbird Catherine Grimley was crowned U Factor Armagh Champion.

Catherine is renowned across the county for her beautifully unique singing voice and her fans turned up in droves to hear the young woman sing live and pocket the grand prize of £2000 and secure a place in the Northern Ireland final in February where an opportunity to perform on a Cruise is up for grabs.

The competition, which is sponsored by the Sunday World and U105, saw 10 strong competitors sing their hearts out in X Factor style in front of celebrity judges and a live audience.  Armagh City Hotel was packed to capacity for the County Final.

While all the contestants impressed, it must be said that Catherine Grimley was out on her own with her two stunning performances.  Her first choice was Lee Ann Womack’s ‘I hope you Dance’, and Catherine left her audience spell bound with her note perfect vocals and awesome performance.  Singing the last song of the evening, Catherine brought the house down with an amazing performance of ‘Feels like home’ and as one of the judges put it ‘Catherine Grimley is at home on the stage performing’.

For those in the audience, who had never heard Catherine sing before, it was a breath-taking performance and for the many who travelled especially to hear her distinctive voice, it was a trip well worth taking.  Her fan base is growing by the day and everywhere she sings she is receiving standing ovations.

Catherine Grimley is no stranger to the spotlight and this has been a big year for the 25-year-old Madden woman.  At the start of this year, she was crowned Ulster Scór Champion and her performance in the All Ireland Final in Killarney was broadcasted on RTE.  She also received the highest commendation when she won North East has Talent after 10 gruelling weeks of competition.  She also opened Ulster GAA’s Club and Volunteer Conference in November last and went down a treat at the Tommy Makem International Festival of Song.  All this combined with her work in the recording studio to produce her first-ever album, which is being eagerly waited for being launched.

There is no doubt, that Catherine’s talent is unique and captivating.  Through the power of song the County Armagh woman leaves her audience feeling exhilarated.  Her voice gives people goosebumps and the power of her performance leaves everyone spellbound.  There is no doubt that Catherine has a very bright future ahead of her and her army of fans will undoubtedly be heading to the grand final in February to cheer on the down-to-earth young woman.
